Vigneto Inferno

Valtellina Superiore DOCG - Riserva
Vendemmia 2006

During September and October, high temperatures encouraged the ripening process and grapes have been harvested with a very high alcoholic content. As a result all parameters allow us to indicate 2006 as a very good vintage.

Grapes

100% Nebbiolo, locally dubbed “chiavennasca”.

Vineyard

Valtellina Superiore DOCG from Inferno sub zone. Well drained, shallow sandy and silty soils with subacid pH. The vineyard is located on steep terraces, between 350 and 500 metres above sea level facing South. The vines, more than 50 years old, are perfectlly well-balanced (reduced yield/crop, increased grape quality) with a planting density of 3500/4000 vines per hectare. The yield is limited to 65 quintals per hectare.

Vinification and ageing

Grapes were harvested manually in the first part of October. They were vinified traditionally in fermentation vats at a controlled temperature (24-28°C) for eight days. The new wine was placed in French oak barrels for 48 months and subsequently in stainless steel vats for 36 months. Then the wine aged in bottle for further 24 months.

Wine

garnet red colour, proudly rich aroma, delicately spicy and complex bouquet. A dry, warm and fullflavoured palate. It has great ageing potential and reflects the close-knit relationship between rock and man.

Analytical data

alcohol 13.00%; total acidity 5.6 g/l; pH 3.60; total dry extract 29.4 g/l.

Production

around 2000 bottles.

Optimum conservation

10 years in bottles laid horizontally in a cool, dark place.

Serving suggestions

game, roasted red meat, mature cheeses.

Serving temperature

18° C.

Land of Nebbiolo

"...il vino lo si giudica proprio da questo, che aiuta, nel ricordo o nella speranza, nella riconoscenza o nel desiderio, a sognare. E non si può descrivere il gusto di un vino se non si ricorre in qualche modo al sogno."
